THE DARK SIDE
So my brain is feeling kinda scrambled but I have a break betwixt a super fun medical exam and lunchtime. Hopefully I'll pass this blood test and be on with it. Some girl from T'ronna might have a little more trouble, but that's her problem to deal with.
Orientation is looking like it's gonna be summer camp from man children and young women, kinda not stoked that it's gonna be a week but oh well. At least they have this thing called "internet" here. Big ups to Luke and the other orphans for housing my ass during my Van City pit stop and hooking a brother up in general. Live up those last few weeks, after that it's a new (hopefully mold and rat-free) page. More when there's something worth posting. Miss you guys already. ![]() Posted on 17 Aug 2010 by chris

Hopping Along
So this bike trip is not going according to plan. Not that anyone with a lick of sense would have expected it to. I biked out of Boliver, Texas and rode the gulf coast for a while. It was super hot. It was also really hot out too. At that point I was about a week behind, due to a series of events that didn't let me leave Houston until almost a week after my scheduled date. So to avoid the crappy roads and heaps of dead critters and broken glass in the shoulders of the texas/LA highways and get back on some sort of schedule I broke down my bike and put it on a bus from somewhere outside layfayette LA and accompanied the creme of society on the proletariat chariot to st. francisville LA. After reassembling my whip, I got back on the road, a really nice road called the natchez Trace Parkway and got back to it. About 100 miles later left ankle started doing funny things, and within a few miles the tendons in my left heel started sending express messages of pain up my leg every time I did a revolution. About that time I was just outside of Jackson Mississippi, so I hitched into town and hit up an ER, where they basically told me I'm not as young as I used to be, and that maybe next time I ought to ease into it a bit more gradually. Awesome. He shot me full of cortisone, prescribed me some steroids and told me to stay put for a few days. So here I am in Jackson Mississippi, where I fired up the ol couch surfing account and was taken on a whirlwind tour of the sites and local color of the town by a cool chick who among other things runs a non profit for bike advocacy in the city. Neat town, nice folks, I'd recommend exploring it if you're ever in the hood. Tomorrow I'm gonna get back on the road and pray things have mended adequately to continue on. It's looking like once I make Tupelo, I might have to play catchup again and forgo TN and or KY in order to make Vermont by my mandatory deadline. It's not ideal, but that's how things go when you don't give yourself unlimited time. That still leaves Ohio, PA, a sliver of Indiana and New York and Vermont which are all nice. Next time I'm riding with someone else, and not carrying a heavy book. You really feel every ounce.
