It's beautiful and sunny out, and what am I doing? I'm in my studio cutting mats like a chump. Monday will see the advent of an epic day in a darkroom, finally making prints of texas, zoo bombs, and a few other select photo sets. I'v got 100 sheets of paper and I'm not leaving till I've ruined all of them. Places I'm not thinking of going next; South america, portland. I feel maybe i should travel, but then again maybe I oughta get a spot to go from that's not my parent's house, so I can return to a life that is a bit more established than all this. I love you all.

So the other day I was playing one of those pizza place style flat-top video games from the 80s and noticed something mind-blowingly relative. I chose to play donkey kong junior, because it was the most beast-monsterish of my options. Having totally pwnd this game as a n00b in life, I expected to breeze through to the high score screen with no probs. However, while in the middle of the first level (seen below) I was struck by something amazing I'd never thought I'd see.



Just as I was vine climbing downwards away from a crocodile like creature (that lives in the trees??) I realized I was facing off against an evil nemesis I'd never encountered before. Mother fucking evil mario!!
DKJr is pretty much the only time Mario has been the evil character in a video game, as they later made Wario the manifestation of this clear alter ego. So, as I always do when I experience epiphanic moments of video gaming I rethought my entire world view on the spot. Terrorsists, freedom fighters. Dark side, light side. Heaven, hell.
So many relative perceptions of right and wrong can be shattered and reformed if you apply this new 'evil-Mario(ist)-paradigm' to your own perspectives and more importantly those of others. Whats good can be bad. And whats bad can be Mario.

Something to think about. Maybe a little heavy for a wednesday.

hope you had a happy tour typhoon/eskimos. things are heating up in vancouver, in all ways. i'm about to head to my studio to work on some prints. i'm going to do a diptych of odb lyrics, anybody want something like this? i'll put up the mock-ups at some point.
