THE KNOWING

Furry Friend
So a call went up on a local message board about the possible adoption of a lovely little doggy. The kid who found it is going to wait on passing it on until he's certain it's been abandoned etc. I volunteered to take it. If i can't make it work with my life, I'll find it a good home, but he's got too many dogs already so he needs someone else to deal with it. Who knows, maybe it'll be good for me. I think I'll name her Sasha or Ellie. I don't know why but those names seem to fit.

A month
It's been a month since I last opened up cute news. Who knew?! Anyway not much to report. Been doing the art handling thing, which involves being real careful, the occasional long drive to austin or dallas for visits lasting no more than 20 minutes (as long as it takes to unload a few crates), and frequent stops at burger joints all over the place. Not a bad job overall.

I brought in about 6 rolls of film that have been following me around for the past couple years. Some are now bunk, a couple are just dull, and others were sort of half exposed. I've scanned in one roll which has a few shots from a stop over in new orleans about 2 years back. We stayed at a squat, got drunk, and sweated our asses off in the ghetto. I swear i ahd another roll from that spot, but alas it's either gone or it didn't take to being drageed around fro two years.

That said, I've put down my digital camera for now. I've been hitting a wall on the inspiration front, and coming home with 300 photos to deal with just adds to the malaise and seems to cheapen the whole shebang. Hopefully things will turn around. They usually do.

SPRANKLES

NB4 is out. well actually, i guess it is 'in' since i haven't really passed any out here in van yet. holla at me if you wants one. portland's got some, you can pick one up at reading frenzy from my #1 fan. projects on in near future include bike kitchen shirts, high scores label logo, and going back to school. if my permit will allow, i'm trying to take some small business entrepreneur certificate thing at vcc starting real soon. shit's getting real in o'ten.

MACHOTAILDROP UPDATE
about three years ago i heard about this film called 'harvey spannos' by vancouverite, corey adams. apparently he had won a fueltv contest and was one of ten directors given 100 grand to make a film. the winner of those ten films would be given a milli or something to make another film. harvey spannos won and machotaildrop is the full length result. this shit is going to be soooo good. even bike nerds love it.

i went asking after harvey spannos at antisocial and found that there is no commercial release of the film. however, michelle the owner lent me her personal rip of the corey's demo reel with the film on it. i'm a lucky mo'fucker to actually have a copy.
in this video from 20 years ago, neil blender explains what a machotaildrop is. the influence is obvious.

this is what you wanna do when all the girls come around.

LSD Bike Shop
A internet search for Seoul fixed gear bike shops will bring up LSD Bike, and they come recommended as the only exclusively track/fixed shop around town by other shops. I decided to drop by on this balmy (27*F) Friday afternoon.

LSD Bike is located a few blocks away from Yaksu station off lines 6 or 3 of the Seoul subway. I just kind of got off the train and wandered around, it's pretty easy to find and immediately recognizable with its distinct sign and a track bike in the window.

The amount of space they have is great - and they pack a bunch of stuff in there. Immediately when you enter there's a bunch of complete builds and all sorts of wheels hanging from the ceiling - everything from carbon tri and 4 spokes to various bolt on track wheels and everything in between.

There's a cake refrigerator that's been appropriated as a components display, it's got all the goodies you could want from NJS goodies to LSD's own house-branded components.

And finally, a wall of frames - if you're in the market for a track frame they've got everything from Korean Keirin frames from Interpro, Cello, and Corex, to Vintage Pogliaghis and even the new Leader trick track frames.

The people are super friendly, and down to hang out and have a chat with an American. I met the owner Lee and Johnny, who happens to have lived right by my old digs at Brooklyn Bicycles in Park Slope, BK. They speak great English, which was welcome after having stepped into a few nice shops that were unable to answer any of my questions due to the language barrier. Lee and Johnny say that there's a growing number of trick riders in Seoul especially, and their bikes are mirror images of some of the top trick guys from North America - 32c and up tires, beefy unicrown forks, bmx style platforms with velcro foot retention a la Holdfast FRS. I like to experiment at track shops in foreign countries and name-drop Prolly and see if they know who I'm talking about, and I was't disappointed.

Johnny's on the left, Lee the owner in the middle, and some goofy dude on the right.

Anyway, the shop's got a couch in the back, the people are friendly, and they're stocked to get you rolling again if you happen to need some service, they've got pretty much any tool I could think of, plus a few more - my favorite being this wheelbuilding tool.

Seems to be based on a slide hammer, it's like an automatic mechanical screwdriver that's perfect for lacing wheels - their mechanic laced a wheel in about 4 minutes while I was asking what the tool was - apparently it's Japanese, go figure. THIS NEEDS TO COME TO AMERICA.

Drop by if you're ever in Seoul, or check them out here on the interwebs. Lee was kind enough to hook me up with a sick LSD shirt, you can snag one at the site.

Machotaildrop
Luke showed me Harvey Spannos awhile ago, I can't exactly remember the deets. Crankers is in there, which leads me to believe it had something to do with Antisocial.

Prolly dropped this trailer for Machotaildrop on his blog, apparently it's the sequel. I love how no one can associate the aesthetic with anything besides Wes Anderson. Anyway, looks weird and pretty like the o.g, wonder what's up with it.

Deets, Luke?
