Welcome to Houston, Texas you Sweet Thang. Living here is sort of an exercise in not being uptight about much. I'm still jobless thanks to an eggs in too few baskets maneuver. For some strange reason though, I'm not really all that stressed about it. Being unemployed is providing me with a canvas upon which I'm refining the pigments of my palate. That is to say I'm pretty much responsible for keeping myself busy, and in a vacuum of responsibility I'm getting better at it. I got some lights (one bulb blew upon first plugin, bullshit) and I'm goofing around with my studio skills. I'm finally editing all the shit I should've gotten to a long time ago, and by god I might just make my website work for my benefit soon.

I sort of want a dog or something and I realize the only way to have that sort of responsibility is to give myself a job that requires minimal hours on site and maximum hours in my new office/bedroom. Oh yea I moved into a warehouse and it's on it's way to being real sweet. I can fit a studio in my bedroom, and there's a darkroom being built in the next couple months on site. I will probably also finally learn some functional spanish, as it's the preferred language in my side of town. Outside it always smells like coffee because I live a block from the Maxwell House plant. Ironically, there are no coffee shops within less than ten minutes drive. I suppose it's actually not ironic, since maxwell house sucks. I'm guessing it's a blackout thing like sports on TV. Even the shitty teams block out the locals.

This past weekend I shot a wedding, subsequently deleted over half the shots, had a near nervous breakdown, then manned up and bought a data recovery program which saved the day. Moral of the story? No matter what you think you've deleted during you time on computers, it's all still there. ALL OF IT. I did a deep scan of one of my memory cards and it showed me pictures of its conception at the SanDisk factory. You've never lived till you've seen a hardware nerd giving some hardware his nerd, if you catch my drift. So hot.

Anyway, here's a sample shot from my first effort with the ol' hot lights. The girl for whom fondness is mutual(I'm a little drunk and that's what made sense) saw me try them on and insisted I buy them. So I did, and they're not only comfortable, but make me a much better poker player. And by better poker player I mean I'm much more proficient at cheating.

Sadly I find myself preparing to leave Vancouver once again, this time only in compliance with governmental wishes. Apparently Canada absolutely does not want young university educated people hanging out and stimulating their economy, so fuck 'em. Perhaps I will be with you once again, America. I'll keep y'all posted but it's looking grim.

Meanwhile, this means that the remainder of my time here will continue to be a shit show, this time minus the early morning job-hunt sessions at the computer.

i went out to the observatory the other night and foolishly left before the moon got nuked. drank a lot of beer though. i heard you couldn't see nothin anyways.

i had my first cyclocross races last weekend and it was really fun. i took fourth in my second race ever and it only left me hungrier. i'm racing Cs this year cause of my license restrictions, but it looks like i'll be up to Bs by next year. ain't no stopping it!

chris is living in town now, taking up residence in The Orphanage. it's a full house and crammed full of good vibes. and bikes. come on by, couch surfers rotating on the daily.
